Day 40: Breaking into the Uzbek Modality System! Practicing "I Can ___" with +a Olmoq & More

Assalomu alaykum!

Grammar time! In class today we are breaking into the system of modal verbs (expressing desire, necessity, ability, and so on) which is highly rich in the Turkic languages and is very exciting as far as being able to make more realistic and complex sentences. For today's post I will share some of my homework as well as a key resource I've tracked down that I am enjoying. Later posts will have more explanation as to how to use these functions in Uzbek.

First off, cool news: I am officially designing a layout for an introductory Uzbek textbook to be published at my website by the end of next year. More on this soon!

Day 36: Uzbek Chapter 9 Review (Talking About Age & Past Events)

Test tomorrow! Short week this week with the no-class-on-Wednesday aspect, but we're getting ready for a quiz tomorrow nonetheless. Day 29: Uzbek Verb Review & A Quick Clip of Phoenix Weather

Test tomorrow again! Coming up at the end of Week 4 and preparing for regular Friday testing. With less new material this week from midterms earlier, the test will be a bit smaller and is mainly focusing on verbs and adjectives, so I've included our key vocab in this area below. Day 26: Massive Uzbek Vocabulary and Grammar Review for Midterm

REVIEW TIME! Tomorrow is our midterm for Elementary Uzbek. Technically we will have completed 1 semester's worth of material. Wow, this program has gone fast! Very productive day in class today getting all kinds of vocab and grammar review fresh in our minds again and onto online written resources. Day 19: More Uzbek Class Panoramas and Lots of Fun Photos

Assalomu alaykum!

Busy Monday! Got the week going with some good class stuff, finally digging into Uzbek verbs which will really help make the language more usable and exciting for us. Got some videos and pictures (see below) and also am preparing for Uzbek Club tomorrow here at CLI, where all the Uzbek classes get together for some culture, music, cuisine, and language practice here at the dorm. Other than that, a really awesome library visit today & some other goings on.

Uzbek som. Super cool! In this currency at this point, price #s are really high, so 1000 som is only around $0.30. Most people pay for things in the millions! Really interesting & my teacher generously gave me this for my foreign money collection. To me it's cool, but for him it's like giving someone a quarter :P

Day 16: Uzbek Chapter 4 Review: Bu Kim? Bu Nima? Classroom Objects

Assalomu alaykum!

Hey guys! Pretty busy day today. Had testing this morning on Chapters 3 and 4 which was composed of various writing assignments to demonstrate knowledge of the vocabulary and general language competency thus far. Feel pretty confident about how I did and from our brief look at the tests (no grade yet, but corrections) I am pleased.

Other than that, had some short class topics and am getting ready to finish the school week into tomorrow with our postponed class from Tuesday. After that, hope to meet up with a friend for yoga and a trip to the Asian market! Will be posting pictures tomorrow.

Day 8: Review of Uzbek Vocab for Test, Photos, Quick Video & Other Miscellania

Day 4 of class today, wow, this program is speeding by. Time flies when you're having fun! Been enjoying myself here whether learning Uzbek or in breaks studying and chatting with friends. It's been great to get a taste of living on my own and sort of just "going with it" when it comes to plans or activities throughout the day.

Today's post is sort of a mashup of review material and just a couple photos, as I'm preparing for the first test of the course tomorrow and my current state of time/energy isn't really permitting for a big post. Lots of stuff coming this weekend with free time, including supermarket reviews, basic phrases, and more creative vocabulary and grammar practice.
